Abstract

Pericles and the Athenian Imperialism, from Thucydides to contemporary historiography. The development of the Athenian Empire in the fifth century B. C. is linked to Pericles’ name. But, from Thucydides to present day historiography, this link has been the object of conflicting judgments, positive for the Athenian historian and some contemporary historians, negative among Greek philosophers and those who nowadays denounce the misdeeds of imperialism.
