Abstract
36 rats were chronicly treated with nitrogen mustard N-oxide. The total dose was 1,3 g/kg body weight. The nitrogen mustard N-oxide was given intravenously, intraperitoneally, orally, and subcutaneously. The middle surviving time of the experimental animals was 714 days that of the control group 750 days. 3 of 14 rats living longer than 735 days had malignant tumours. Therefore in the rat the nitrogen mustard N-oxide must be regarded as a carcinogen but of only little activity. The carcinogenic total dose is nearly 200 times as high as the therapeutic one.
