Abstract
• Ovariectomized mice received continuous estradiol or vehicle treatment. • After 40 days all treatments were terminated. • One month after treatments ended memory and estrogen receptor activity were assayed. • Previous estradiol enhanced hippocampus-dependent memory. • Previous estradiol increased estrogen receptor activation in hippocampus and cortex.
