Abstract

Incontinence is a very common clinical nursing problem, which can easily cause incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) and hospital-acquired pressure ulcers (HAPU). Prevention and management of incontinence and related skin complications has become a nursing focus around the world. In this article, we describe the classification and definition of incontinence and related skin complications, and also review the epidemiologic features, risk factors, assessment and diagnosis, prevention and management, as well as expectation of incontinence and incontinence-associated dermatitis. We hope to provide new conceptions or viewpoints for prevention and management of incontinence and related skin complications.
