Abstract

The primary goal of radiation protection in COGEMA facilities is to monitor and minimise exposure of personnel. With regard to internal exposure, which in the majority of cases results in a minimal dose, our intention is to eliminate it. The plant concept, which is described, is designed to prevent internal exposure by applying the following criteria: (1) facility design, containment barriers, ventilation; (2) special attention paid to procedures outside normal operations; (3) collective monitoring of risks by continuous detection (alarm function), continual sampling, and laboratory analysis (for detection of very low activity levels); (4) preparation of emergency actions to carry out in the the event of incidents or accident situations.
