Abstract

Diabetes is well recognized as a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality. There has been a notable increase in the occurrence and prevalence of diabetes mellitus on a global scale. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus and its consequent effects highlight the need to allocate resources for preventive treatments, disease management and long-term healthcare provision. In this specific context, the Medical Residency Program in Family and Community Medicine (PRM-MFC) emerges as an effective mechanism to assist in the prevention and treatment of diseases. The present work aims to evaluate the prevalence of diabetes in the city of Campo Grande/MS in the year 2022 and compare the number of treatments carried out in units with and without the implementation of the PRM-MFC in Primary Health Care. a cross-sectional study carried out with data from the Health Information System for Primary Care in the city of Campo Grande – MS, as well as information contained in surveys carried out through the Surveillance of Risk Factors and Protection for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey, of the Ministry of Health. The study found that units with the PRM-MFC program had higher rates of detection of diabetes cases. This is due to its comprehensive approach, including regular exams, patient education and personalized treatment plans. Implementing this program in more healthcare facilities could significantly improve diabetes detection and management outcomes.
