Abstract
Introduction - During the planning of a large screening trial, a lack of a clear definition of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (aTAA) in various relevant guidelines was exposed. Normally, an aneurysm is defined as a diameter at least 50% greater than the normal size of the artery, while a 25-49% increase is considered to be ectatic. (1) The healthy aorta is usually considered not to exceed 40 mm in diameter. (2)
