Abstract

This paper numerically studies a pressure-driven flow of rarefied gas through a slit using a direct simulation Monte Carlo method. A gas mass flow rate through a slit and a gas flow field were calculated. The calculations were carried out for various values of the pressure ratio over a wide range of gas rarefaction. The dependency of the mass flow rate and the flow field characteristics on the pressure ratio value and gas rarefaction degree was determined. In addition, the paper presents a discussion on the existence of the shock waves within a flow field in a hydrodynamic regime of the gas flow.
