Abstract

To develop an alternative method for internal arc testing in SF6-insulated power equipment, it is essential to clarify the conditions that lead to pressure increase due to air and SF6 arcing in the testing. Therefore,a systematical experimental data on air and SF6 arcs have been obtained in order to calculate the pressure rise in power equipment. In this study, experimental evaluation of the pressure increase and pressure oscillation due to air and SF6 arcs in a closed container has been described. The results of this research suggest that it is necessary to consider the rise in pressure phenomena, when performing internal arc tests for replacing SF6 with air.
