Abstract

AbstractThe magnetic field effect on the pressure of charged particle flow is described analytically. Low‐density charged‐particle fluxes, for which a kinetic, rather than fluid description is appropriate, are simulated. Both impulsive and transient injectors of charged particles are considered. Maxwellian and shifted maxwellian velocity distributions of injected particles are dealt with. Obtained results allow (i) to simulate the acceleration of space objects (for instance, space platforms) under the pressure of ion beams, which are focused by the ambient magnetic field, (ii) to calculate the magnetic field, which must be generated for the effective control of influences of a jet from electric rocket engines on a spacecraft and space station.
