Abstract
X-ray diffraction patterns, electrical resistance and optical reflectivity for amorphous and crystalline Te 1 − x Se x have been measured under high pressure. It is found that the high pressure monoclinic phase with x ~ 0.6, which has a puckered layer structure containing planar zigzag chains with period 3, can be quenched to atmospheric pressure. The correlation between the chain structure and the electronic states in Te-Se mixtures is discussed.
