Abstract

Pressure sore prevention is high on the agenda for most healthcare professionals. The shift of care from hospital to the community has brought about many changes over the past few years. Providing 24-hour care to reduce pressure sore development in the community can be difficult. This article discusses some of the key issues related to pressure sore prevention and examines the importance of education, risk assessment and equipment loan services in the provision of 24-hour care. A mulitdisciplinary approach to pressure sore prevention is essential in the community but so too is the adequate availability of resources.
