Abstract

Reliability of digital microwave links is degraded by multipath fading. The present paper critically examines the various diversity methods used to counter this effect on the basis of experiments conducted in various countries. It is shown that cross band frequency diversity gives better improvement factors than in-band frequency diversity. Adaptive equalisation couple with frequency diversity can meet the CCIR/CCITT objectives. Antenna pattern diversity, and angle diversity appear to be very attractive in reducing the link outages appreciably.
