Abstract
Varying the chemical composition of fibre-forming polymers for the purpose of a controlled change in the properties of the fibre is a long-standing practice in man-made fibre production. One need only mention the fibre processed from the complex ester of cellulose acetyl cellulose, or the industrial-scale production of the various types of synthetic fibre from the copolymers of acrylonitrile to convey a conception of the practical significance of this direction of scientific and technical advance in the manmade fibre industry.
