Abstract

Purpose of the study. The article describes the prescriptive speech genres of the contemporary English-language discourse by Ian McEwan from the point of view of lexical, grammatical and stylistic aspects. The achievement of the research goal involves the selection of research methods: descriptive-empirical (provides description of the characteristics of prescriptive speech genres), a method of continuous sampling (to identify specific examples of prescriptive genres with the purpose of determining their features), comparative (for comparing and comparing various subgenres and distinguishing their distinctive features ). Scientific novelty. For the first time an attempt was made to systematically characterize prescriptive speech genres in contemporary English-language discourse, to determine their lexical, grammatical and stylistic characteristics. Conclusions. The prescriptive speech genres in postmodern English-language art discourse by Ian McEwan are studied, their basic lexical, grammatical and stylistic features are given.
