Abstract
ABSTRACTPuts forward the proposition that preprint servers, which were originally designed as an informal publishing mechanism for the distribution of preprints, contain many of the characteristics of traditional scholarly publishing, and could conceivably serve as a new model of scholarly publishing in the electronic environment.
