Abstract

The application of a medium-free, continous flow electrophoretic separation was evaluated for the characterization and purificaiton of rabbit serum proteins and antibody. Electrophoretic separations of large volumes of whole antiserum, serum or fractions which corresponded well to the distribution of serum proteins in agar-gel or other types of electrophoresis, was obtained. Considerable electrophoretic heterogeneity was observed for the antibody of two pooled sera. It was concluded that the electrophoretic method described is a useful additional method for the preliminary physicochemical purification of antibody.
