Abstract

Chlorine compounds of rhenium are particularly suitable starting materials for studying the chemistry of rhenium in aqueous medium, since several of them may be dissolved in hydrochloric acid solutions without undergoing a change of oxidation state. Also, the formulas for various rhenium chlorides can be readily established by simple and direct elemental analysis. The following compounds were selected for study: ReCl., K2ReC16, KReOCI,, and ReOCl4. In these compounds rhenium is represented in oxidation states of +3 to +6, inclusive. The preparations used are based on metallic rhenium and postassium perrhenate as starting materials.
