Abstract

SiC fibers were prepared via electrospinning method. The starting materials were polyvinyl alcohol, sucrose, and SiO2. The SiO2 was extracted from natural pyrophyllite. In this work, we report the effect of polyvinyl alcohol and applied voltage on structural SiC fibers. The samples were then characterized using XRF, FTIR, and SEM-EDX. Based on the results of data analysis, it was shown that the optimum composition of polyvinyl alcohol in the SiC fibers was of 13.75% (w/v). It was also found that the SiC fibers had a smooth surface with a uniform diameter. Furthermore, the optimum applied voltage was set up at about 24 kV.
