Abstract

In this paper, a preparing method of rice husk based carbon–silica compound filler was proposed basing on anaerobic roasting of rice husk, ultrafine grinding, chemical precipitation and surface modification. The resultant filler was used to improve the mechanical properties and thermal stability of styrene butadiene rubber. Effect of surfactant types on the particle size and dispersion of filler and on the mechanical properties and thermostability of rubber composites was investigated. The addition of modifier effectively improves the dispersion of filler in rubber composites. The filler modified by titanate coupling agent shows the best enhancement effect. The thermostability of modified rubber is close to that of carbon black filled rubber.
