Abstract

Multiferroic BaTiO 3 -(Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 ) Fe 2 O 4 (BT−NZFO) ceramic composites were prepared by a novel hybrid process. In this route, nano-sized BaTiO 3 powders prepared by conventional solid-state ceramic processing were dispersed into (Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 ) Fe 2 O 4 sol-gel precursor. Uniformly distributed suspension/slurry was obtained after ball milling. Dense, homogeneous, and fine-grained ceramic composites with attractive magnetic and dielectric properties were obtained from the slurry at low sintering temperatures. The ferromagnetic and electric hysteresis curves of the ceramic composites have been observed at room temperature. Very low dielectric loss of about 0.02∼0.0067 in the range of 10 kHz∼2 MHz can be achieved. The combination of higher inductance and capacitance enables significant miniaturization of electronic devices based on the ceramics.
