Abstract

A novel lanthanide based coordination polymer namely [Ce(tp)(NMP)2(CH3COO)]n (1); (H2tp = terephthalic acid, NMP = N-methyl pyrrolidone) and a new crystalline material namely [(tp)(NMP)2] (2) were synthesized under solvothermal conditions with identical process and different heating temperatures. These two, were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural analysis of 1 reveals formation of a 2D Ce(III) coordination polymer that composed of nine-coordinated cerium centers. Compound 1 has been used as precursor in the preparation of ceria nanoparticles by calcinations. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.
