The information presented in this article was obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Japanese Government, from the Central Agricultural Experiment Station, Nishigahara, Tokyo, and from personal observations made in Japan by the author from September 22, 1945 to August 5, 1946. Tanada, formerly Scientific Consultant to the Soils and Fertilizer Branch, on leave from the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station, for help in compiling the data.
