Abstract

(Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4O11+y is a nontoxic cuprate system with a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of about 117 K for bulk samples. Recently, it is found that the bulk samples of this material synthesized under high pressure hold the highest irreversibility line among all the superconductors, which is very promising for the application in the liquid nitrogen temperature region. In this paper, we report successful growth of a-axis oriented (Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4O11+y films by pulsed laser deposition method on LaAlO3 (001) substrates. The maximum zero-resistance Tc obtained in our work is as high as 96 K which is 18 K higher than the Tc reported previously in this system. The magnetization and resistivity measurements reveal that the superconducting properties of the films are significantly improved. These newly observed properties enhance the prospect of potential applications of this material.
