Abstract
Amorphous GdxFe1−x (0⩽x⩽0.35) thin films were prepared by rf cosputtering using the iron target covered partially with small gadolinium pieces. The composition dependences of the saturation magnetization, M-H loops, and domain structures were studied. The coercive force was obtained as a function of the composition and temperature. Such magnetic properties of GdFe sputtered films were very similar those of amorphous GdCo films.
