Abstract

Coprecipitation with 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine) as the precipitant was used to prepare the YBa 2Cu 3O y -Ag composites. This method permits easier fabrication of a single-phase superconducting material. Calcination at 800°C followed by sintering at 930°C of samples made of coprecipitated precursors gives pellets with a superconducting transition temperature of 91 K. Characterizations of the properties of YBa 2Cu 3O y -Ag composites by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and magnetic measurements obtained after the high-temperature treatment are reported.
