Abstract

A series of stellular pentaporphyrins, in which tetraphenylporphyrin units are linked through α, ω-dioxyalkyl (C3, C4) spacer groups, have been prepared and characterised using the procedures developed by Little and by Milgrom. Free bases and central metalloporphyrin complexes (zinc, nickel) have been prepaRecl. It is proposed that such molecules with sufficiently flexible spacer groups should be capable of providing cavities suitable for coordinated catalytic systems. Preliminary Langmuir-Blodgett experiments on film formation and transfer are described.
