Abstract

In this work, we described a simple method to prepare cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles (NPs) coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The hexagonal phase of CdS NPs coated on MWCNTs has been detected form the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) portray a dense coating of spherical CdS NPs on the MWCNT surface with the diameter in the range of 4–8nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study indicates that the functionalized MWCNT surface is bounded chemically to the CdS NPs via carboxylate. The optical absorption of CdS NPs coated MWCNTs displays a significant improvement compared with the functionalized MWCNTs.
