Abstract

A carboxymethyl chitosan/κ-carrageenan (CMCS/κ-C) sponge incorporating green silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for wound dressing was prepared. The particle size and morphology of AgNPs and the morphology characterization of CMCS/κ-C sponge was investigated. The results showed that the particle size distribution of AgNPs prepared by CMCS was around 10 nm, the best mass ratio of CMCS and κ-C in the sponge was 1:1. Its tensile strength, elongation at break, porosity, water vapor transmission rate, water absorption was 1.51 ± 0.18 MPa, 37.09 ± 1.03 %, 70.24 ± 6.84 %, 1339.27 ± 32.48 g/m²/day, and 2690.26 ± 144.60 %, respectively. The CMCS/κ-C sponge incorporated with AgNPs could inhibit the proliferation of E. coli and S. aureus, and no toxicity to L929 cells, showed good biocompatibility. It could heal wounds in SD rats on the 12th day, the wound healing rate reached 92.82 ± 2.14 %. Therefore, CMCS/κ-C/AgNPs sponge have potential application as wound dressing.
