Abstract

In this paper, a novel silica nanoparticle modified with a poly(ionic liquid) is synthesized by an ion exchange reaction and graft polymerization on the surface of the nanoparticle. By utilizing FT-IR, TGA, and TEM, the diverse products prepared are characterized. The modified silica nanoparticles are subsequently used as supporters to generate a catalyst containing Au. To evaluate the catalytic activity of the catalyst, methyl orange is degraded in the presence of H2O2. The results of the experiments indicate the catalyst possesses a level of catalytic activity comparable with that of TiO2 nanoparticles.
