Abstract

Two forms of single crystals have been obtained of amicyanin from Thiobacillus versutus, a blue copper protein that serves as an electron acceptor for methylamine dehydrogenase. The crystals of one form belong to the monoclinic space group P2 1 and have unit cell parameters: a = 54.0A˚, b = 54.9A˚, c = 37.3A˚ and β = 107.9 ° (1A˚= 0.1 nm). There are two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The crystals diffract to about 2A˚resolution. The crystals of the second form are orthorhombic, space group P2 12 12 or P2 12 12 1 and the unit cell parameters are: a = 81.6A˚, b = 70.6A˚ and c = 38.7A˚. There are again two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The crystals diffract to 2.9A˚resolution.
