Abstract

Lattice structures with different types of open cell topologies are attracting interest as millimeter cell sized lightweight core structures for sandwich panel constructions. Lattices appear to be an alternative improvement to honeycomb structures with flexible and amenable to the creation of single or compound curved sandwich panels. Currently, lattice structures design is limited to folding fabrication. Hence, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing technologies allow more complex and advanced lattices design. The purpose of this research is to design and compare the capacity of different lattice structures. Z-ULTRAT material was used to simulate the 3D printed materials. All designs will undergo buckling test to simulate the real-world applications of sandwich core panels.
