Abstract

A compact L-band six-cavity relativistic magnetron with diffraction output is simulated and investigated experimentally. The preliminary experimental investigation is carried out to verify the simulation results. When the applied voltage is ~336 kV and the magnetic field is ~0.21 T, the output microwave power is ~566 MW with the efficiency of about 28%. The radiating frequency is 1.58 GHz which is in agreement with the π mode frequency. The radiation pattern is TE 31 mode which is also in agreement with the simulation result. The simulation and experimental results show that the device has a relatively high efficiency with low guiding magnetic field, which is convenient to minish the structure and the weight of the system.
