Abstract

Lightning protection of medium voltage overhead lines is necessary to ensure a reliable wide-scale penetration of renewable distributed generation. In this paper, we investigate the coordination of shield wires and innovative multi-chamber arresters to provide lightning protection against direct strokes. We consider different installation schemes with regard to a reference medium voltage multiconductor line by means of an EMTP-RV model, presenting some preliminary findings.
