Cancer of the breast is the most common invasive cancer in women, now estimated to develop, during her lifetime, in one of every nine women. As many as 15% of breast cancers present during the childbearing years. Moreover, the clinical challenge is often greater than with nonpregnant women. Finally, because physicians deal with this situation so infrequently, it is easy to propagate misinformation.
