Abstract

KONFERENSI NASONAL PENELITIAN MATEMATIKA DAN PEMBELAJARANNYA (KNPMP) V (The Fifth National Conference on Mathematics Research and Its Learning) “STEAM Education: An Innovative Approach in Teaching Mathematics Comprehensively”August 5th, 2020Auditorium Moh. DjazmanUniversitas Muhammadiyah SurakartaINDONESIAThe National Conference on Mathematics and Learning Research or KNPMP is an annual scientific forum organized by the Mathematics Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta since 2016, and this year for the fifth time the KNPMP is held by using the new concept in form of Webinar (Youtube streaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TIzDhErbcA&list=PLHPYTU7r9lGhuMX_ORN5SrZ7 V7FEzmTU1&ab_channel=TVUMS) due to Covid-19. In addition, KNPMP V that have to be conducted at 1 April 2020 have to be postponed to be 5 August 2020 with the theme “STEAM Education: An Innovative Approach in Teaching Mathematics Comprehensively”. The theme of STEAM or Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics is considered very relevant to be raised at KNPMP V at this time because to answer the global challenges where today’s young generation needs to be equipped with creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The STEM education that was echoed before was deemed insufficient to accommodate these three skills so that a special aspect was needed which according to Ge, Infatheler and Spector (2015) was more artistic and humanist. So, the Arts aspect has entered to complement STEM Education into STEAM Education so that the current and future young generations will become more competitive and humanist in facing global competition.In accordance with the theme, we invited one keynote speaker, and three experts as the main speakers. As the keynote speaker, we invite Dr. Sumardiyana as a Director of SEAMEO Qitep in Mathematics, Indonesia. As the first speaker was Assoc. Prof. Mazlini Adnan, Ph.D. from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia. The second speaker was Dr. Toni Toharudin from Universitas Padjajaran, Indonesia. The third speaker was Dr. Rully Charitas Indra Prahmana from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Indonesia.I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who have supported this conference.
