Abstract
This paper proposes a novel degradation model of mechanical properties of composite structures under hygrothermal environment, and develops a procedure of predicting the reliability degeneration. The influence of moisture concentration, temperature and the long-term effects of hydrolysis are considered in the degradation model. The structural distribution of moisture concentration is calculated using Fick's diffusion law and finite element analysis. The hygrothermal expansion is considered using classic laminate plate theory. The reliability index is calculated using first-order reliability method. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity of the degradation model and reliability degeneration prediction procedure.
