Abstract

A new empirical equation based on cation exchange characteristics of some representative soils including Na-Ca-Mg system is proposed to predict the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) of sodic soils, on the basic of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) of the soil solution which fitted better than those proposed earlier for 106 surface soils irrigated with brackish water. Reasons of the limited applicability of the earlier equations are discussed.
