Abstract

Wire basket test is a hazard analysis method for the self-heating hazard of accumulated substances regulated in EN15188. However, this test requires a large amount of sample and long test period. To solve these issues, a new isothermal method to predict the self-heating temperature for any scale by obtaining pseudo activation energy of heat accumulation reaction using DSC has been developed. Governing equations at isothermal condition for nth-order reaction model and for autocatalytic reaction model were induced. From self-heating temperature at a scale obtained by wire basket tests and activation energy by DSC tests, the self-heating temperature can be easily predicted regardless of the accumulation scales.
