Abstract

The article 'Forseeing earthquakes' (Physics Bulletin May 1976 p200) shows a lack of understanding of earthquake prediction techniques as well as denigrating the current Chinese earthquake prediction programme. In reference to the Chinese programme the article pompously states 'Any conclusions drawn from the mass of gathered information were backed up by local seismograph recordings of changes in ground height and tilt, but no high technology or intimate understanding of earthquake processes were involved'.
