Abstract
Poor repeatability is one of the main disadvantages of manual semen analysis. The WHO manual (4th edition) recommendations of counting at least 200 spermatozoa in duplicate accounts for up to 19.6% difference between two counts by chance alone. Statistics of percentages for motility is even worse. A high level of repeatability can only be achieved by counting large number of cells, which is better offered by automated systems rather than manual methods. The goal of the study was to compare precision of the SQA-V automated sperm quality analyzer with the manual semen analysis.
