Pre-operative hyperfractionated radiotherapy and concurrent 5-fu/cisplatin for locally advanced esophageal cancer - the impact of 18-F-fluoro-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography staging

Abstract

This is a preliminary analysis of a phase II trial attempting to address the optimal strategy for integrating hyperfractionated radiation and concurrent chemotherapy in the pre-operative setting for patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer. In addition, the utility of 18-F-fluoro-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) in the staging of esophageal patients remains unclear and will be addressed in this report.
