Abstract
One does not have to look far to see that health-care workers are suffering from burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma at alarming rates. In 2019, the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) began searching for ways to reconnect our teams to the purpose of our work and to find joy again. Then, there was a global pandemic. Now, UMMC has committed to using the Communicate with HEART principles to refocus our teams on human connection and relational medicine.
