Abstract

Objective To explore the practice and effect of FOCUS-PDCA method in reducing the incidence rate of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in ICU patients. Methods The FOCUS-PDCA method was used to analyze all links of the occurrence of DVT in ICU patients, to determine the high-risk factors of DVT; continuous quality control (CQI) team was established and it provided training for ICU medical staff, and made it standardized. The incidence rate of DVT in ICU patients was calculated. Results The incidence rate of DVT in ICU patients before and after using the FOCUS-PDCA method were 8.48% and 2.9% (χ2=4.925, P<0.05). Conclusions The FOCUS-PDCA method can solve the problem such as: medical staff doesn′t paying enough attention to the incidence rate of DVT; the master degree of medical staff in DVT prevention related knowledge is different; and there is no standardized nursing measures for DVT prevention in ICU. Standardized medical nursing measures can effectively prevent the DVT of ICU patients. Key words: Intensive care unit; Deep venous thrombosis; FOCUS-PDCA method
