Abstract
Setting: University-affiliated, freestanding rehabilitation hospital. Patient: Patient with severe West Nile virus (WNV) infection. Case Description: A 75-year-old man admitted due to high-grade fever associated with left upper-quadrant pain, nausea, and vomiting. He had a history of mosquito bite. Complications included persistent high-grade fever despite multiple antibiotics, confusion, and respiratory arrest requiring ventilation support. Work-up led to 2 positive WNV results. After weaning off the ventilator, he was transferred to an acute rehabilitation facility (ARF).
