Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction technique for DC-biased optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM)-based visible light communication (VLC) systems. The positive and negative amplitudes of DCO-OFDM are separately processed with a different linear companding transform under the emission power conservation criteria. The transfer characteristic of a commercial light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is also employed to illustrate this PAPR reduction technique's effect. The complementary cumulative distribution function simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme has the ability to improve the system performance in DCO-OFDM-based VLC systems.
