Abstract

In this paper a power quality investigation of the Libyan Telecom Technology (LTT) headquarter and data center electrical distribution network is presented. A full description of the center single-phase and three-phase load types are illustrated. Loads individual current harmonic distortion theoretical levels are explained. Accumulated current harmonic components at each connection point are also predicted. Estimation process involves an optimistic and pessimistic approach of the excepted harmonics due to the mix of the various data center loads at each busbar. A real measurement results of the current and voltage Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and line power factor are presented, compared and assessed according to the IEEE519-1992 harmonic control recommendations. The paper proposes some practical procedures and precautions to be applied in order to improve the overall power quality of the data center that could minimize the related risk and distortion issues.
