Abstract

The rapid development in power semiconductor devices and the usage of power electronic systems has expanded to new and wide application range that include residential, commercial, aerospace and many others. Harmonic Distortion and low power factor in power systems are caused by power converters have been a great concern. The conventional technique of single phase ac -dc conversion using a diode bridge with bulk capacitor has numerous problems such as low order harmonics injection into ac power supply, low power factor, high peak current, line voltage distortion, increased electromagnetic interference and various additional losses. In this project, single phase AC-DC Zeta converter with one switch is used to overcome the various problems. By adopting the necessary technique such as Proportional Integral controller with Hysteresis current controller, the overall power factor and efficiency can be improved, the Total Harmonic Distortion can be reduced, the output voltage ripple can be reduced to the expectation.
