Abstract

The interest of the people on the production of environment friendly clean and renewable energy has increased to a lot in this decade, and hence, more and more wind and solar energies were tapped and supplied to electrical grid. With the variable nature of these energies and with the interconnecting power electronic components, when connected to the grid, there are issues related to the power quality. Due to nonlinearity present in the load, its impact is more on the source side of any converter. That impact may be on the power quality issues like affection of voltage and current waveforms, total harmonic distortion (THD) and total demand distortion (TDD). These types of problems can be resolved by the usage of various power quality improvement devices such as DSTATCOM and UPQC. The attempt is made to enhance the power quality of the stand-alone wind energy conversion system (WECS) supplied to nonlinear load. In this article, it proposed a methodology which improves the power quality of the system which contains a nonlinear load fed by WECS. The paper presents various simulation results. It also gives the comparison with the previous methodologies. It shows the better improvement in power quality of the system.
