Abstract
As a consequence of depletion of the conventional energy resources, the world is looking towards for nonconventional energy resources. Solar energy resource is one of the limitlessly available resources to generate electricity. Nevertheless, the grid-integrated solar photovoltaic system (GIPV) is associated with lot of power quality issues, major technical challenges and power control problems. This paper discusses the major power quality issues like voltage swell, voltage sag, voltage imbalance, flickering problems, current harmonics and voltage harmonics, power factor issues, reverse flow of power, voltage regulation, reactive power variation, frequency fluctuation that are related to grid integrated PV (GIPV) system. Some of the major technical challenges like short and long term power interruptions, protection, storage, islanding, reliability, stability related problems are also discussed in this paper. This paper concludes by providing the viable solutions for the discussed power quality (PQ) issues, technical challenges in the GIPV system.
